I have spent several hours on the phone with Toshiba Level 1 & @ reps regarding why the latest update starts to download and then stops with message: 'unable to download software package, Please check your network connection.' The first round of discussions was with someone that had be do a factory reset in spite of the fact that I was working on the Internet and having no problems through the wireless connection. After about 20 minutes I was passed to a Level 2 tech who seemed even more incompetent. He tried first to explain that I might have a bad tablet and need to have it replaced (this one is brand new). After pushing him for awhile, he could not explain why I could so easily navigate the web but not download something from the Toshiba servers. I made him try to draw something of their servers and he admitted there MIGHT be a problem at theri end since things seemed to be slow.
He said if that was the case it would be fine within a few hours (guess he just wanted me off the phone). The next day I called because the problem continued. Would appreciate any other suggetions.Do you believe in things happening for a reason? Just asking because if I had encountered all that hassle, I would think that just maybe this is a sign that I really don't want to perform that OTA update. I know a lot of people who did, now wish that they had had enough problems to put off the update until they had read the consequences of updating.
You don't buy that, huh? It seems obvious that you do have a problem tablet. Most likely the problem is software-the current software.
If you're of a mind to do so, you can install ClockworkMod Recovery (requires ADB setup) then flash a. After that, you could try to do the OTA update.
If it's still possible, you could return it for another. Final solution, send to Toshiba to be reflashed. Just out of curiosity could you read off some system information for us?

The one that got it to the latest Android Version took about 100 attempts. The two remaining available updates are for Toshiba Book Place 2.1.2884 and Thrive 3.2.1.31.5.0002 System Image Update.
As you watch the status bar for loading, book place appears to go about 90% before it dies while the System Image Update goes about 10%. I generally use Kindle so not sure how much of interest or problem is posed by the book place update. There also seems to be problems (I THINK) being posed about the 3.2 version with requests to convert back to the 3.1 version.
This makes me wonder if I should just be happy I cannot do this or is there a problem with this particular tablet not being able to download 74KB of data off a Toshiba server. Because everything else seems to work, I am beginning to think this is or continues to be problems with servers at Toshiba.
