Some riders even change bars before taking delivery of a new bike from the Dealer. Handlebars play a role in everything from handling, comfort to the style the customer is looking for. Here are a few things to look for when choosing a handlebar manufacturer.
Do they feel solid or flimsy? If they're welded, how do the welds look?
Are there any sharp edges at the wire holes? Are the bends smooth and flowing, or choppy and rippled? Is the finish clean and consistent, or does it have blemishes or chips? It doesn't take an expert to answer these questions.
First thing we concentrate on is the construction of our handlebars, (for obvious reasons). The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweet taste of low price is forgotten. The next thing is fitment. This cannot be done because controls will hit the gas tank. Most drag bars are designed for an aggressive feel. When looking at drag bars, keep in mind the bars with risers welded to the top bar are not adjustable. If you think you may wish to adjust the bars, get a drag bar that bolts to separate risers and top clamp.
CONVENTIONAL BARS Conventional bars are basically the most common bars used to keep the stock style look. The less pullback, the more you will have to reach to grip the bars. 5.5' rise, 35.5' wide, 14.25' Pullback. Good pullback and decent wrist angle. WO550 Chubby® Beach Bar shown here. 3.5' rise, 36' wide, 15' Pullback. Similar to WO518 but lower with smoother bends. Conventional bars good for the rider that wishes to keep the bike low and squatty.

APE HANGERS Ape hangers are a different breed of handlebar. These are always based on a personal preference. For instance, I have a few friends that swear by them and I don't particularly care for them. Some states have strict rules regarding height standards. Seat height will definitely change the height of the bars in relation to the shoulders. They can be rotated forward and back which change the height as noted below. 36.5' wide, 12' Pullback All of our pullback measurements are done with the bars in line with the front forks. The taller the bar, the more pullback.Don't mistake pullback for wrist angle. Wrist angle is explained below.
