AUTOCAD 12 for DOS / WINDOWS 98 compatibility HELP NEEDED!! I’m trying to run my AutoCAD 12 package on my Pentium 233 which has Win98 as it’s operating system. SHELL environment appears to be the problem. AUTOCAD is normally stable. But if the SHELL / SH Command is used during a work session (to SHELL into DOS), a LOCKUP occurs upon Quitting or Ending a drawing session.

Anyways, the previous link not only contains the files to download, but it also has instructions on where to put the files and how to load and run the commands. If you are running 2015 or 2016, you don’t need to download anything. I got my start using Softdesk and AutoCAD R12 in DOS. You want to know if there are limitations in the DXF™ data when saving as R12 DXF/LT2 format from AutoCAD® software. Solution When you save as R12 DXF from the product, the resultant drawing interchange format (DXF) file will have the following limitations: The DXF file will not contain all the layout information normally saved in the AutoCAD format. Autocad R12 Dos Program

Have tried CONFIG.SYS line SHELL=C: COMMAND.COM /e:1024 with/out the /p switch, pointing to the current Win98 Command.COM as well as pointing to other Command.COM’s but I have not been able to find a way to retain use of the DOS C: Prompt when I close an AutoCAD session during which I used the SHELL Command. “F8” key on BOOT into SAFEMODE DOS Prompt Only returns message: “EMM386: Unrecoverable privileged operation error #1 – press ENTER to reboot,” just prior to lockup. I tried installing “DEVICE=PHARLAP.386” in the Windows SYSTEM.INI file under 386Enh, and copying PHARLAP.386 into C: Windows? I found the Win98 AutoCAD ICON Properties dialogue box for allowing ALTERNATE DOS BOOTING FILES, but I don’t seem to have the magic key line? Is there a way to modify the ACAD.PGP external commands section to redefine the “Memory Reserve”? “SHELL, 0,.OS Command:,4”? Here's a message that was posted a few days ago, maybe it will help.
